Coopertown Elementary School's effort to get students and their families to read, read, read at least 20 minutes a night was great! We kicked off our annual Fall Literacy Week with multiple activities ranging from daily dress up to Family Read Night. Our theme for the week was Pirates. Students had the opportunity to attend the Scholastic Book Fair in the library with their class.
During Family Read Night, families were encouraged to come and commit to read 20 minutes of quality reading time each night with their child. Afterwards families were encouraged to join in each grades' reading activity. There were many activities such as reading sight words while walking across a plank, making pirate faces, making parrots and creative pirate names, and going on a vocabulary scavenger hunt. Also during Literacy Night our book fair was available for all families to come purchase books. All activities were a huge success! We look forward to our next Literacy Week in the spring.
